Born in 1958, Yuval Steinitz served in the Golani Brigade before taking a Bachelor's and a Master's with honors in Philosophy at the Hebrew University. He received his Doctorate in Philosophy from Tel Aviv University and went on to become a Senior Lecturer in the Philosophy Department at the University of Haifa. He has written four books on philosophy, the first of whom, An Invitation to Philosophy, has been through 30 printings. Dr. Steinitz became active in politics, and in 1999, joined the 15th Knesset as a member of the Likud Party. In the 16th Knesset, Dr. Steinitz served as Chairman of the Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee, Chairman of the Subcommittee for Intelligence and Secret Services, and Chairman of the Joint Security Committee of the Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee and the U.S. Congress. In 17th Knesset, Dr. Steinitz was a member of the Knesset Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee, Science and Technology Committee, and served on the Joint Committee for the Defense Budget. In the current 18th Knesset, he serves as Minister of Finance. |
